White Stork is very popular bird in Poland. Over 23% of world population (52,000 pairs) of this bird live here in Spring and Summer. Storks are wandering birds and just before Winter they fly away to hotter countries in Africa.

The peregrine falcon is one of the most famous and characteristic Polish birds.Sadly, it is now one of the species on the verge of extinction. Poland from the 80th is trying to rebuild the population of this bird.

Common Pipistrelle is one of the smallest bat in the world. It is 3,5-4,5 cm long (with a wingspan 19-25 cm). It's weight is about 7 g - almost the same as the U.S. dollar (8g). Such small creature lives usually.. up to 16 years.

Mieszko's I (the first king of the Poland) pastures were full of... pigs. Those pigs had longer legs, than pigs breeded now and they were grazed with sheeps, goats.

Aesculapian snake(pol Eskulapa) - one of the most common snakes in Europe and in western Asia, can be found on some pharmacies, clinics and hospitals logos. Not many knows, that symbol of the medics is the biggest snake in Middle Europe (and also in Poland). Snake could have more than 2 meters. The biggest one had 225 cm.

No, today's article is not about Polish sportsman but about... frog. Agile Frog (Rana dalatina) has only about 5 centimeters (max, female - 8,5 centimeters - but this is very rare) but can jump on the distance of two meters and the height of 0,75m! Such distance is 40 times it's body size - imagine human (avg. 1.75m) jumping on the distance of 70 meters.

Cave bears - 30% larger than brown bear (the largest currently living bear) - became extinct almost 28 000 years ago. They had 2m length, 1,7 meter height and near 1000kg weight!

Today one of the birds of pray from Poland - Common Buzzard called also Buteo buteo. In Polish name of this bird is Myszołów - what means "mouse hunter". It's because this bird can be often seen on the fields during harvest, when he is catching mouses running from the farmers agricultural machineries. Myszołów is common bird in Poland, however it's not easy to see one. He is under strict protection.
